The Family on Whitcomb
The eldest of the children is a boy with shining eyes.
You may find him building Lego or making sure the airplane flies.
Questions ever flow so freely from the lips of this small boy,
And the toys that aren't 'realistic' are quite sure to annoy.
He watches o'er his sisters, making sure that they abide,
By the rules Mother stated and a few more besides.
The middle of the children is a girl with golden hair.
You may find her changing socks or finding things to wear.
She loves to sit with Daddy, often whispers 'I love you!'
She does a lot of talking and the questions are not few.
Her dollies are well cared for, though stuck with quite the names.
Playing house and church are some of her favorite games.
The smallest of the children is a chubby baby girl.
She likes to empty cupboards and watch the toilet swirl.
Her smiles come quite easy, and her mouth is filled teeth.
And though they are so pretty, they made us lose a lot of sleep.
Her newfound trick of walking makes her feel so very proud,
And when she topples over, the cries can be oh so loud.
The father of the family is the favorite of the lot
You may find him sipping coffee or getting the kettle hot.
He spends his days in orchards tending to the trees
And evenings are often spent with children on his knees.
The mother of the family is writer of this poem.
She can usually be found right within the walls of home.
Dishes, cleaning, laundry are the chores that should be done,
But a lot of time goes by before they are begun.
